Scripture for this message:
- Hebrews 2:14-18
- Hebrews 4:15
- Hebrews 7:26-28
Just like the original audience of Hebrews, we have the same temptations to drift away from Christianity and hang our hope on things of this world (job, spouse, hobbies, etc.).
Eventually all earthly things fail, and when they do our joy and hope that hangs on them will be shattered. The author of Hebrews argues that there is a better place to hang our hope and joy.
Jesus suffered persecution and crucifixion because of the “joy set before him.” He lived as a man, to enter the same trial we all live, and died in order to complete the trial. He lived that life in such a way that there can ever be another replacement. He knows how to defeat the temptations and is the ultimate high priest and sacrifice for all our needs.
