Three parts to who God says He is (Ex 3:13-15):

His Being (Who He is):
– Self existent and independent
– Creator and sustainer
– Immutable, unchanging
– Eternal

His Character (What He does):
– He sends

His Name:
– The LORD (Yahweh)

Jesus is Yahweh
-Mark 1:1-3 & Isaiah 40:3
->’the voice’ prepares the way for Yahweh (the LORD)
->John the baptist prepares the way for Jesus
->John the baptist is ‘the voice’
->Therefore, Jesus is Yahweh

Yahweh rescued His people through the Exodus. Jesus, who is Yahweh, rescues us by living the Exodus on our behalf.

12 ways Jesus lived the Exodus
1) Came out of Egypt (Gen 15:13; Ex 12:40; Matt. 2:13-15)
2) Speaks of His departure (Luke 9:30-31 – the Greek for ‘departure’ is literally ‘exodus’)
3) Received the Wrath of God (Ex 7-12 for the plagues; Rom 5:9; 1 Thess. 1:9-10; 5:9)
4) He is the first born (Ex 12 & 13; Rom. 8:29; Rev 1:5)
5) Passover Meal/Lord’s Supper (Ex 12:1-13; Luke 22:7-20)
6) Jesus is the Passover Lamb (Exodus 12:1-13; Luke 22:7-22; John 1:29; Rev. 5:1-14)
7) Jesus’ people pass through water to symbolize their deliverance (Ex 14:5-31; Matt 3:13-17; Acts 2:37-38)
8) Blood of the covenant (Exodus 24:8; Luke 22:20; Heb 9:11-28)
9) Jesus is the bread from heaven (Ex 16:1-8, 31; John 6:25-35)
10) Jesus tabernacled among us (Ex 26ff; John 1:14)
11) Passed the Wilderness test on our behalf (Ex 16:4; Num 13 & 14; Matt. 4:1-11)
12) Jesus’ people sing the Song of Moses (Exodus 15:1-18, Rev. 15:1-4)
